I'm weaving my local hwy based on a photograph that I took from the passenger side. I printed the photo in greyscale and am weaving mostly true to the colours with special attention paid to the value of each area, ie. the light or darkness of the colour. I’m looking forward to weaving the sky.

I’m weaving this on my Everlea Tapestry Loom double warped for 12 ends-per-inch, with a single strand of Everlea Fingering as weft.

My teen student made this wee weaving to sell at a Christmas Fair next week. I love its simplicity.

Janna Vallee Janna Vallee Everlea Gradients

I’ve been making samples for my students which combine my two workshops, Weave a Sunset and Weave an Everlea Gradient. What do you think of this 70s inspired colourway combination? These are all the colours from the last two months of Everlea Colour Club (Aug/Sept) dyed with three trees: Osage orange (yellows), cutch (browns) and logwood (purples) and woven together on my Everlea Mini Loom in walnut wood.

I wove these two gradients to compare my naturally dyed Everlea Fingering yarns, shown in the smaller weaving on the left using two months of Everlea Colour Club, and Bio Shetland yarns, shown on the right on my Everlea Tapestry Loom. I like them both but always prefer the naturally dyed yarns of course. I’m impressed that my naturally dyed yarns are brighter than the Bio Shetland ranges. In person they are both quite a lot more stunning than photos could ever capture. Textiles are just like that 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m sharing this with permission from Pamela, the artist. She made this last week at my in-person Weave a Sunset workshop in Roberts Creek. Isn’t it stunning?!

The sky is almost finished but I thought I'd post this now. This is my first tapestry . . . I'm calling it Mexican Sunset :) It's hard to tell but if you look at the yarn on the top that is black (it's not but it's showing up that colour) there's a tiny black square/hole. Same in the blush below it. When I do meet and separate, I seem to have a large gap when I do "separate" - there's always a visible space/gap so that I end up pulling on the yarn to fill it up. Hope this makes senses.

LHere is my first tapestry! Going to try double wrapping my loom next time and try to perfect my edges! I still have to finish my tutorial on how to finish this hahaha! Thank you ❤️ inspired by my trip to the Oregon Coast.

Janna Vallee Janna Vallee Colour in Tapestry Projects

I wove these two merging circles using one of the cartoons offered in the final project of my Colour in Tapestry course. I double-warped my loom, and I’m weaving with a single strand of Everlea Fingering at 12 ends-per-inch. I was pretty happy with it until I showed it to Danny and he excitedly exclaimed, “Mastercard!” Now I can’t unsee it 😆
