Bio Shetland

BC Garn's Bio Shetland is a beautiful woolen-spun, 100% organic wool yarn which is dyed using commercial synthetic dyes and the most eco-friendly dye practices, as certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). Each beautiful colourway features a dynamic mix of colours, some with small flecks of contrasting colours offering the feeling of a subtle tweed. Designed for colourwork knitting, this rustic, low-loft yarn is also great for weft-faced tapestry woven at 12 ends-per-inch, or held double woven at 6-8 ends-per-inch.

For use in weaving with my Weave an Everlea Gradient, Colour in Tapestry or Weave a Sunset workshops choose two or more different five-colour groupings of colourways.

Colour groups called, 'dynamic gradients' offer multiple hues (colours) in one five-colour gradient. As opposed many shades of one colour ranging from light to dark, dynamic gradients include other colours like yellow on the light end of a green gradient, for example. I find dynamic gradients especially fun to weave with, offering a more painterly effect, and they are great for collecting a variety of colours for your stash.

I offer Bio Shetland individually as in 7g bobbins or 50g skeins, as well as in groups of five offering a variety of values (lights, mediums and darks) for successful gradients and colourwork. When offered individually I have marked them from #1-5, 'one' being the lightest and 'five' being the darkest.

Bio Shetland has a rustic charm that lends itself to structural handwork like tapestry weaving and sweater knitting. It softens up substantially when hand washed or fulled.
